I have had 3 alternator belts break off after hearing very loud squealling. I replaced the alternator last month. The sqealling continued and the belt breaking continued. The noise does come when electrical output id used, i.e. defroster, fan, defog. I was suspect of the waterpump. Yesterday I replaced the pump with a new one. I startet and ran the vehicle to fill coolant and pulled it outside. After sitting for 2 hours went and started and squealling was there. I was pretty upset. I can see that all pullys are turning and do not appear out of line. I sprayed the alternator with silicone and it was boiling off and smoking. Can the alternator be getting so hot that the belt is burning off?? I have no option but to replace the alternator again.
Any input on this would be great as long as you don't tell me to check alignment of the pullys or movement in the waterpump.

Check the belt alignment, they should all be perfectly inline with each other, also look to see if there is a tensioner pulley (some engines have them, some don't) If you're not getting proper tension on the belt that can cause them to slip and get burned up, bearings can go bad in tensioners.
