I need very specific details like where everything is located. I've only had the car a month and I'm racking my brain trying to figure out where and how.

okay guys
so first u need to remove the cover which is on right unscreew plastic screews (its attaching to battery area, so ull have to remove batt6ery cover also, then right down next to head light screw that attaching that cover take that out )
after that ull see a black intake box under neath there will be 4 clips on pices on each side of box unclip bull out part of intake box and there u are air filter
yah i know my description is bad

^^ bad though it may be you tried. :P j/k. Let me give it a whirl.
-open the hood (if you hadn't figured that out you probably should be paying someone to do this)
-Remove the battery cover
-Remove the air duct to the battery. To the left (driver's side) there's a little triangular plastic thing with three plastic screws. You only need to remove the furthest left screw and then the whole duct will come out. Try not to drop the screws.
-Under that is the Air Box. Unclip the metal clips on each side and then the top will come up some. It's not much but it should be enough to slide the air filter out and get the new one back in. Make sure the new one's seated properly and then put everything back together.

Great explanations so far. Kudos to S8MP and icspots, I was able to figure it out from their descriptions. I figured I'd put up a set with some pictures (should be attached).
In picture 1, pop the two clips holding the battery case cover on (in the green circles), and lift up and remove the cover (there are just a couple tabs in the back).
In picture 2, you can see the opened battery case with the battery air duct (the thing going from the red arrow to the blue arrows/battery case). This duct is what you'll be removing to get at the air filter box. The nice thing is that you can remove it by unscrewing only one screw, the one circled in green in the lower right (engine front, driver's side).
- Unscrew this plastic screw (green circle), and then lift out the little snap-in piece below it (don't drop either into the engine compartment!).
- Lift up on the duct where the blue arrows are (notice how the duct fits into the battery case at each of the blue arrows so you can put it back).
- Where the red arrow is (out of view of the picture) there is a little tab that the front of the duct slides into. Notice how it does this so you can put it back the way it was.
In picture 3, the duct and adjacent plastic framing piece are removed, and you can see the air filter box underneath. 3 of the 4 clips holding the cover on are circled in green, the other one is at the top left of the box (towards engine-rear, passenger side of the box).
- Unclip all 4 of the clips (circled in green)
- Lift up on the cover, you should be able to get the air filter out and slide the new one in.
- If you need more clearance, you can unscrew the clamp circled in red and pull off that hose, which should give you plenty of room.
When you're all done, just put it all back the way it was! (hose, clips, duct in place at the air intake and battery case, screw it on, battery cover). Have fun!
