theres an mx3 for sale for 495 bucks, the timing slipped and im curious is it worth buying? would the valve hit the piston or not...:S body is mint, int. is all there and very good condition, and theres a sunroof:) rear swaybar need to be replaced aswell, other then that theres no problems ... whats your input?

I am not that familiar w/these cars, but it sure sounds like a good deal to me.
Most engines (but not all) are non-interference engines, meaning that when the timing belt lets go you can almost be assured that there is internal engine damage.  But for <$500, it's worth the chance, imo.

how would i find out if this car is a non interference engine? its the 1.8L V6 16valve engne, if that would help at all

A repair manual should give you a clue. Or, call a dealership.  Or, get the engine family code and look it up online.

MazdaUSA.com might be a source for that info too, but it may be too old for them to want to deal with.  I'm not sure.  You're probably better off finding an old mechanic who was into modding and customizing these cars in their day.

that does sound like a good deal, i bought mine the same way, the timing was off and it needed a new rear swaybar.. i would buy it if i was you since its so cheep
