Hello, I bought a new 2000 Protege 1.6L DX when I lived in Nebraska because I could afford it and because every Mazda owner I knew loved them.  I had no intention of modifying it because it seemed like a waste in Nebraska's crappy weather.  Now I live in Arizona and since my car still only has 33,000 miles on it (that's not a typo) I figure I can make up for lost time.  And I can safely say that I will only buy Mazdas now.  I guess that's about it.

Welcome Frank!  So I guess you've come to love the car as much as the friends you spoke of?
From Nebraska to Arizona... that's quite a change for sure.

Yes, and I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY.  I haven't seen snow in two years and I don't miss it one bit!  The only repairs I've had done since 2000 are two tires and front brakes (a couple weeks ago), so yeah I'm sold.

I was born, raised and lived in eastern Pa for nearly 38 yrs.  Now I live in Texas and hardly ever see weather like that.  Snow= 1/4" that's usually gone in hours. Ice= well, we did have a nasty ice storm here early last year that kept me out of work for three days, but nearly everything stops here when that happens, but it doesn't too often.  I don't mind staying home when the weather sucks!

Yes, I've been to Ontario many times, mostly in the summer though.  I traded all that for 120 degree summers. That's no lie. Last summer we set a record for most consecutive days above 100.  It takes getting used to.  One winter in NE we set a record for most days below zero.

Try Newfoundland winters.  A couple feet of snow in the morning, a ton of rain in the afternoon, then sunny in the evening (In no particular order).  Most times the temperature hovers around zero, so it get pretty slushy.

Ontario gets super cold though.  Where abouts in Ont. do you live in, jaimie08mazda3?
