Deployment will be at it's highest with an unbelted occupant (the airbag then needs to decelerate the body speeding towards it in an accident. Your car will stop when you hit something, but without a seatbelt, you won't stop.

I'm actually surprised that cutting that wire didn't set off the seatbelt minder. It should detect an open circuit (belt not connected) by having that cut. If the sensor (the one you cut) isn't sending a signal to the Restraints Control Module, then you are altering how the system will work.

So, with my seatbelt connected, but the computer thinking it is not connected, I'll get max deployment and the benefit of my seatbelt...I'm OK with that.

It kind of baffled me as well why the computer seems fine with the seatbelt-receiver-connector disconnected, but I'm not complaining.

My theory is that so long as you are wearing your seatbelt, you should be fine. Just my opinion.

Just had my service guy turn it off for me. There are two ways, one is temporary and the other is permanant. The dealer has to hook it up to the computer for the permanant fix. He also did it for free while doing my oil change. What a nice guy!!!

i have a 05 mazda 6i base. alrighty spark3542, dont know what model you have but i am with OAlmon on this... i followed the wire from the seat belt and it lead all the way to under the seat. i disconected it and same thing happend, airbag light was flashing. there is no other wire in "mid air", just that one wire (actually 2 wires black and white wrapped together and covered). i obviously reconnected since i dont want any airbag issues.

also tried the temporary fix. turned car on, put the seat belt on for 5 seconds, took it off, all doing so within 20 seconds and drove around and gueeeeesss what??? yup didnt work either. still darn seat belt chime. cheeeesssssy.

the reason why i went searching for this post to begin with was this morning i was driving to work with my seat belt on and 30 mins into my driving all of a sudden out of no where my chim goes off! i was like wtf?!?! my belt was on and everything... weird i thought. so i was looking to just turn the damn thing off completely. dont know if its going to do it again but did anyone else ever have this problem???

was i suppose just turn the key to ON first, then put the belt on for couple seconds, then take it off, then start the car?

t0mb0, id get that checked out...if your belt is on and it is chimming that is not good because it will effect airbag deployment and such...just a thought...
