Hey guys, I'm new here, and am looking into a Gen 2 RX7. I know virtually nothing about the Mazda family of vehicles, and would like to know what problems I would expect to have out of one of these vehicles. I've also heard that the motor's in the car have a few large problems, if so, what are they and what are the fixes/workarounds for them.

Thanks guys.

main way to deal with them is to either be mechanically inclined or just get one that has been babied. if you get one that has a lot of miles on it, you will have problems. it is just like any car, there is maintenance and downfalls no matter what. the main thing is, get one in good shape. spend the extra money and get one lower miles from an adult owner that knows the car inside and out.

on the other end of it, the rotary motor is actually extremely simple compared to a 16 valve, dohc front wheel drive. the motor can be rebuilt in a few hours by someone who knows what they are doing and there isn't a valvetrain to worry about, so it is more simple in that area as well.

conclusion: if you have the money to invest up front, or are mechanically inclined and want a project, a rotary is tons of fun. i looked and wanted for a long time before i bought mine. i finally bought this weekend and found a 1987 turbo II for $3700. it has 76000 miles and came with extra parts. i got it from a guy that knew every bolt on the car and was a freak with maintenance. that's what you need to find with a rotary. take your time and spend the money up front on an investment.
