I tried to wire in my trailer light connector to the pigtail wiring harness that is under the rear bumper. The harness is color coded for trailer lights but I found it was electrically dead. My vehicle was sold without a towing package. Has anyone wired their Tribute with trailer lights? Where on the harness do you connect in?

My 2004 Tribute has no towing package, but it was easily wired by my neighbor, who is a mechanic.  I dont know exactly how he did it, but I know that he used a standard converter box and it plugged right in behind one of the rear panels in the cargo area.  Wish I could help you more, but that's all I know :-)

One more thing...when you do go to wire it, mount the converter box inside the vehicle.  One year of driving in the rain and salt (if applicable) will ruin the box and you'll be replacing it.  Also, you will prevent corrision on the wiring connection fitting itself because it will be inside the vehicle at all times.
