hey, i am trying to buy a 2000 Mazda protege, it has 125 000 mile on it and i was wondering what the average engine and transmission life of that typ of car would be, provided that oil and other fluids were changed regularly... i just don't want to have problems with it..is it a good car?

A good general rule for cars is 15K miles per year - I think that's the average. So 15 x 7 (since 2008 just started) is 105K...125K on a 7 year old car isn't unheard of, though. One of our senior members (I think it was sstlaure?) had a Protege that last close to 225K miles, if that's any indication.
