AEM makes the Mazdaspeed CAI.  They are the same. 
From what I''ve read, it''s only the CAI for the Speed3 that''s been pulled from the shelves for issues.
Larry, if you''re really worried about it, there are outer socks are supposed to help.  Of course I imagine they restrict flow too, so what would be the point?

Thanks Virgin1 I just need a peace of mind, what I am thinking is maybe useing one of those socks durring the winter to aid in keeping snow pileing up. Where can you purchace one? Is it just a porus cover over the filter cone?

Yes, that''s what it is.  Are you sure you''re going to want to remove/install/remove/uninstall/remove/reinstall that thing twice a year? I know Injen and a few others sell them. A Google might pull up something?
Why not simply fabricate a splash shield if the AEM didn''t come w/one?
i.e. This is the one that comes w/the MS CAI.
