Most likely a lack of sufficient annual sales volume.

as sstlaure said, milly was a bit low on sales, and after the production was stopped it was basically replaced by mazda6, which is doing pretty well now. that's the only reason really, the car is pretty reliable and a lot of ppl get up to a high milage without any big problems.

The Mazda6 replaced both the Millenia and the 626 in Mazda's line-up.

Why slow sales? My 1999 is in great shape but it does have a lot of road noise as compared even to my 1991 Camry. I'm just wondering what attributes pushed this car out of the market. A long time poster on this forum mentioned the low resale value of these cars and he is right. I guess because they are not produced any more is one reason so parts are going to get hard to come by.

Once a car has been out for a few years, sales decline no matter how good it is.  It's no longer "new"

When Mazda went to the drawing board for a replacement, they realized they could fill both the Millenia and 626 niches with a single car.  The Mazda6 did a great job filling that space and made up more annual sales than both models combined.

I must admit the Millenia is a nice looking car.  A guy I worked with had a real nice 2001 (I believe)  Black/grey 2-tone.  Very sharp.

in the automotive world, most car manufacturers will phase out a certain model after 7 years.  the europeans do this religiously.  the japanese seem to follow the european lead.   the exceptions are when a particular model is extremely successful, ie, honda civic, accord; then they keep producing it.  the germans dont, they just move on.
