My '06 mazda5 stalls or it will surge.  Car runs great with regular scheduled maintainance from the mazda dealer, but sometimes when I'm leaving from a stop and start getting up to speed it will stall on me, or it will feel underpowered and then surge forward(like I hit nitruos) with out having to press the accelorator down more.  I had the dealer check it out and run it on the computer but they said they found no faults in the system and I asked if there are any recalls out on the mazda5 right now.  Anybody else have this problem?  I don't drive the car hard and it is completely stock with less than 10,000 miles on it.

Mine doesn't stall, but my '06 5 will sometimes "buck" or "hiccup" upon acceleration.  Dealer hasn't been able to replicate it yet, so they can't advise me.

I also have a '06 Mazda5 and have the same problem. In the year and a half I've had the car it has stalled 4 times. typically when starting from a complete stop, or when slowing down to make a turn. As I step on the gas the engine suddenly dies. Not a comforting feeling when you're crossing a busy intersection after a stop. I mentioned the problem the last time I went for maintenance, but all they said was that they looked into and found nothing.

Our 07 1.8 TS2 does it occasionally - not enough to be a concern  - but our sub £10k Citroens managed to run OK when cold so we did expect more from a Mazda.

We own a 06 Mazda5 and have had the stutter/hesitate problem since new.  Car has never actually stalled (thank god), but has shown this problem all along.  Currently 28K miles - problem is slowly getting worse (more frequent and longer stutter).  It feels as if the ignition were turned off then turned back on.  All other electronics remain functional during this time - radio continues uninterrupted, dash instruments continue to read correctly.  We had the car in early (<10K miles) and the dealer "flashed" engine cpu memmory with updated file.  Continue to have problem.  Difficult to reproduce reliably - happens once every 500 miles or so.  Usually first time running car in the day, usually within first 1-2 miles.  Usually under light/moderate acceleration at lower speeds (5-30 mph).  Engine just suddenly loses power and then (less than a second later) comes back on.  No computer codes so dealer has said can't find problem unless they can reproduce.

This is a growing concern as this has happened several times when turning left through a busy intersection - would not like to think about having car stall in middle of intersection with wife and 3yr old son in vehicle!

Do we not have any Mazda guru's on this board like the VW forums do?  No one who can shed some "unofficial" light on matters like this?

I've experienced this couple of times, and during those times I wasn't sure if I have just accidentally stepped on the gas pedal harder at that instance.  The feeling is that the car kinda jerked forward.  I haven't mentioned this to the dealer/service but I'll try to keep an eye on this if ever it happens again and to observe what are the circumstances.

So, based on this info, this shouldn't affect '08 models, eh? (just need verification, as I've just bought an '08).
