How likely is water to be a threat to your engine if using the CAI.
I live in florida and it does flood here alot during the summer (up to 2 feet of water) .  I was considering getting the bypass valve to accompany the CAI only to find it not available for the 2004 Mazda 6.
The CAI for the mazda 6 appears to be alot smaller than most other vehicles, and the pipe i believe is only one piece.  People that have reviewed the product say that they just cut the the intake and install the bypass valve.  Any reccomendations?

Also could someone when please share where exactly the filter rests within the engine compartment.

Thanks, Doug

Cutting the tubing to install the bypass seems like your best alternative.  Or go w/an SRI instead of a CAI.
If I were that worried about the weather in my area, that's what I would do.  2' of water is extreme, imo.  Keep that out of your engine's intake.

The filter on a CAI for the 6 goes in the bumper in front of the driverside wheel. If you are that concerned with water problems you may want to consider just doing the airbox mod instead.

I did an airbox mod to my 3 before I got the CAI, but what's considered the mod for a 6?
Just curious, that's all.

The mod I did, along w/a K&N panel....

Basically, you remove the resonator and gut the inside of the airbox. Wish I could be more specific than that, but I went the CAI route instead. However more specific instructions can be found on www.mazda6club.com.

I made a call to the folks at AEM for some general questions about the SRI, for my 6.  And they said that the SRI and CAI is for Automatic transmissions only due to mounting conflicts.  My 6 being manual makes these opitions unavailable.

Doug.

Well...  doesn't that just SUCK!!  Do they think that everybody in NA drives an automatic?
That doesn't even make sense really.  Since the MTX is physically smaller I would think it would be easier to install an intake.
On my 3, the MS CAI (made by AEM) installs using one of the rubber mounts originally used for the stock resonator. Note the nut in the middle of the picture....

Doug,
You don't say whether or not your car is an i model (2.3) or s (3.0 V6,) but checking AEM's site, they don't ask for a tranny type or specify that either their SRI or CAI is designed for a specific tranny.

You may have gotten a Bozo on the phone. I'd look into it further if you wish to pursue an intake from them.

(edit:) Upon looking further, AEM does specify the SRI is for the auto only(?), but nothing specific about the CAI, which would lead me to believe that it will fit either.  'Course you're back to the bypass valve mod then too.

Sorry, i have the 3.0 V6 S model with the manual transmission.  The person i talked to on the phone said that the CAI not being specified for the A/T was an error and that in the manual or whatever he was looking at, it was only for the A/T (same for SRI), and he said he was making a note that that needs to be changed on the site.

Um, yeah, I think they fed you a line of total BS there. I'm almost certain that I know of more than a couple guys on 6club who are running CAI's with MTX's. Granted the only one I know personaly is running the MAZDASPEED intake, same as me, but I really don't see why the MTX/ATX would make a difference with the CAI. Now, stuff like an ECU I could understand, but not the CAI.
