It started as an problem idling. I talked to a local mechanic who specializes in imports and he said that these cars have a problem with intake gaskets, which would go along with my previous conclusion that it was running lean. I changed the fuel filter thinking that would help, and it did a little. But it still wouldn't idle for more than a few seconds. The revs would just drop and then it would die. It had to have constant gas, even while in gear. In the beginning it helped if it was in neutral and has gotten progressively worse. I tried to change the intake gasket but got a little ways in, took off the air snorkel again, disconnected a few electrical connectors and decided to take a look at the placement of the bolts on the intake, couldn't get to the lower ones, damned horizontal engine. Put everything back together and the car won't start. Car sat for about 6-8 weeks then we tried to jump it, still wouldn't start. We took the battery to Advanced to have them charge it and they say that there is a problem with the battery it was a DEC 04, so it wasn't that old. We got a new battery and it wouldn't start. Sorry for the long second post. Thanks for any responses.
