Well the upside is you can program a new remote in yourself. You program all remotes in together so once you've added the new one the old one won't work. The downside is that the remote for the '08 costs $117 (from www.onlinemazdaparts.com). There are probably other sites that sell them cheaper, but the dealer would charge you more than Jason would. The downside for your key is that unlike programming the remotes when programming keys you need to have at least two working keys in hand. If you only have one key then the dealer will have to plug into your computer and do the programming that way. I can't say what they'll charge for that, but probably way more than the 5 minutes it takes deserves. My suggestion for you is to go ahead and buy two new keys. That way should you lose one later on you can just buy a new one and reprogram it yourself instead of having to deal with the dealer. Check out my thread HERE for more details on pricing and p/n's.
