True, but I know that there has only been 1 owner. They kept the car extremely clean and there is a report on the vehicles maintenance. So I know the car was not abused in any way. Also, the 05 car still has the warranty on it, so its not like its a really big problem. A new 2007 GT with sunroof and spoiler would be around 24K after taxes. The deal being offered to me would make the car 16K after taxes.

Should I spend 8K for  less bells and whistles just to get slighly improved handling? ...seems like a lot...I think knowing I got a good price would over rule the other stuff.

For 8K more, I would go with the new vehicle. Even though you know the sevice records for the vehicle, you have no idea if the previous owner drove the crap out of the car. In fact when we were buying my son his 08, we looked at getting a used unit, say an 04, an 07 and an 08. The cost differntial between the 07 and 08 was negligable, however the difference in costs of a slightly used car, was about $4000 not including taxes. It just made no sense going used based on the cost of a new 2008 as these vehicles have a high resale value.

and it is probably the best thing ever. considering that my friend bought a 93 civic and his car will not pass safety. thus why if i bought a used car id have to worry about any repairs, safety, e-test and all taht stuff. sure yes i need the safety and e-test but my car would pass no problems but a used car id have to do aloooooooot of work to. it just made more sense to buy a new car

All years of 3's have a high resale value.  Actually it's good enough that it kind of sucks.  Why would someone pay $16k for my 3 in excellent condition when they could buy a new one for only very slighly more?

You bought yours so you wouldn't be able to sell it for what it's worth?  My point is the resale value is so good on these cars that it's hard to sell it for a high price since someone can just pay a little more to get a brand new one.

He also doesn't say whether or not it's a hatch or a sedan.  The hatch would be worth more as they cost a little more to begin with.
Frankly, I don't think the difference in payments would make it worth $14.5K.  I love my '04 and have had very few problems w/her so far, but spend a little more on a newer one, and as wineye said, you could make just as good a deal on a left-over '07 than on the '05... presumably.
