Ok i got one for you guys...

My Dad has a 1993 Mazda MX-3 with a 4 Cylinder 1.6L Motor and he was driving it the other day and all of a sudden it died on him at an inersection. After like 3 minutes he got it started and went into a parking lot where it died again and would not start back up at all. Now Yesterday i checked everything out and it was not getting spark at all. So the first thing i did was check the ignition coil, cap/rotor. The cap and rotor are brand new and the ignition coil is putting out 12.73 volts when the ignition key is set forward.

So it had power up until the distritubtor.. I changed it today with a remanufactured one, and it started up for a second then died again with no spark... The plug that goes into the dist. has power also. And also the plug that goes into the ignition control module has power too.... What the heck is going on here? Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the ignition system for a 1.6L?

Ok i think i have figured it out... Either there is a loose ground on the plug for the ignition control module or a short comming from the computer but one way or another something keeps shorting it out?? ANY SUGGESTIONS WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!

Could be the coil or a number of things. A signal is sent from the distributor to the ECU and the ECU uses it for a number of things such as kicking the fuel pump on,charging/discharging  the coil, It is in the form of a ground so any component that uses that signal such as AFM or P/S control unit can cause a no spark condition. A break in the wire harness or short to ground between the distributor and ECU is possible but if the fuel pump runs then the signal is getting to the ECU. The AFM encorporates a fuel pump shutoff switch so is also suspect. Jumping the fuel pump jumper wire can allow you to disconnect some components like the AFM to see if it is shorted for a quick diagnosis and if you do not have access to the resistance checks.

I have access to a 200 dollar digital ohm meter/volt meter what is happenining is when i connect a brand new ignition control module it gets spark for like 2 minutes then somehow the control module shorts out.... If i replace with another one i get the same results, 2 minutes then burns out.  Is there anyway to test the ignition control module??
