I wanna have the HID look in my mazda, but im waaaaaaay too poor to afford the kit. What bulbs are safe to use that resemble the xenon look?

Hey, congrats on the new 3!  I'm not sure that an an HID look can be replicated simply with a new lightbulb because HID has a more "solid" beam, whereas halogen lighting looks more "diffused," but you can attain a color similar to HID by using a bulb that measures 4300K (Kelvin) to 5000K.  The higher the Kelvin/color temperature, the closer it is to the color of HID lighting (around 4300K gives off a whitish color and around 5000K gives off a bluish color).  On my '99 Eclipse GS-T, I used PIAA bulbs, but those bulbs are unreasonably expensive and have poor longevity.  I got better results using Sylvania Silverstar bulbs, which are relatively inexpensive and last longer.  I don't remember what the color temperature is on those, but they gave off a whitish color.  I hear that Sylvania has a new product called Silverstar ULTRA, which are supposed to be even brighter, so you might want to check that out.  My local Kragen Auto Parts store let me "try out" the light bulbs and was fine with me returning them if I was unhappy with the results, but I ended up liking them. :)  I hope this information is helpful.  Good luck and enjoy your new ride!

thanks for all the great info everyone! i just spoke to a buddy of mine who works at autozone and he told me the silverstar ultras are top knotch, and right now they have some kinda discount./sale  on them aswell. Im only lookin at 40 bucks topss for the low beam look alike, he also told me that due to the outer shell of the mazda 3 low beams ( the circular dome which the bulbs sit in) it will have a great affect and look very sharp! Ill let everyone know how it went :D
