P1743 indicates a fault in the torque converter clutch solenoid. Do you have a DVOM?

DVOM is a Digital Volt Ohm Meter.

Will be impossible to check the resistance of the TCC circuit without one. If you want to check out yourself then a decent one should be available thru radioshack for under $20. Just need a high impedance meter that measures volts and ohms. There is not any physical way to check the solenoid in question as it is attached to the valve body inside the oil pan of your transmission. The solenoid has probably shorted or open circuited which means that it may need to be replaced. It is available separately but will require removal of your transmission oil pan to access.
