Does anyone know how to disable the traction control or make it permanent AWD so I can take the CX-7 on the beach?

Just air your tires down REALLY low for driving in the sand.  (When I drive my truck on the sand I'm running maybe 6 psi in the tires)  Start at around 12 psi and go down from there if your tires still don't float.  When you get back to the pavement, just drive slow and you'll be fine (<20mph) until you can get to a gas station to air back up.

If you leave full pressure in your tires you will sink regardless of traction control.

It has full time AWD.  The computer senses slippage and distributes power as necessary.  If a wheel slips it will activate tranction control and move power elsewhere.

Traction control is in addition to AWD.  This controls power availible from the engine, applies wheel brakes independently and distributes power.   Thus slowing down the slipping wheel.

I cannot say if the CX7 system is up to soft sand.  That is one of the tuffest tests of any off road short of deep mud etc.

Definately lower your tire pressure before going out on sand.

Let us know how you make out.

I've seen guys driving a Subaru WRX on the dunes here in Michigan.  I'm quite sure that if the tires are aired down properly it will do just fine.  (You want to see the sidewalls bulging a fair bit)
