i assume you meant wheel hop? That is sad for the GTO. No wonder they stopped making them. I will take any Mazda over the GTO. I would rather buy the Mazda 2.

ya i meant hop, but its curable with updated cradle mounts, and updated rear end cover. But actually they do pretty good on a road course, Holden builds pretty nice sports cars. The Aussie models handle a little better with less hop because the gas tank sits behind the axle, on American cars the tank is above the axle.

 I have no experince with rotories "but"
The RX-8 make grate power per leater and it light.
And for every 1000 rpm ganed its about a 1/3 of an et {if i rember right}
so to make it faster in 1/4 mile times how about droping the gering down.?
Its cheap and do you really need to top out at 150?

I have to agree with xxxmaxximusxxx on the whole horsepower thing... Because, if you know ANYthing about cars, its not HORSEPOWER that gets you off the line, or around a corner, its torque... Sure the Mustang GT beats out the 8 at HP(just a number) and torque, but have one of  the MANY new GT drivers out there follow me into a full circle on-ramp onto the free way... By the time that pony gets to the END of the turn to USE its hp/torque, im already gonna be merged into the fast lane switching the radio station...Unless of course i get the ONE middle aged mom in her "cute" convertable GT  that can drift..... But the chances of  that happening are nil....
   I was all into the RWD craze when i was looking for my new car... I, like many, others fell for the 350z... All those ponies STOCK??? i wouldnt even have to put an intake on there... But thats the thing, if you want to buy a car that is EXACTLY like the guy  next to you's 350, then by all means, fall into the crowd, but car customization is THE best thing about cars... ANY car....I live in So-Cal, and i counted the 350s i saw on the way to Wal-Mart... 7 of them on a 15 minute drive, IF that.... i did the same for GTs on another trip.. 9 just on my way to the beach...and what was the difference in ALL those cars???? The driver...Thats it..... Im not saying there is NO RX8s on the road, but since i got back to Cali in august, i have seen prlly a total of 15...Different colors, graphics, rims, spoilers,kits, you name it... Like i said b4, any soccer mom can go out and buy a 300hp plus GT and call it special cuz she put MOM4LIFE on the plates, but a real enthusiast buys what is different stock, and makes it his own....

I am a rotary die hard. I am restoring a rx2. I still have my 1994 rx7 that I bought new. I have owned rx3sp, rx2 and a rx8 a for few months.

With all that said I agree with npoll212, the rx8 does not make a enough hp/tq for its price range and get bad gas mileage for the hp/tq
it creates. I traded in my 2002 wrx for a rx8 and I was going to sell my 94 rx7. I convinced the with the car should be fast enough
and it has four seats, perfect for our two girls. After two with the car, I loved the handling, driving around town. I hated the gas mileage
for the perforance that I got. It was not worth me selling my rx7 and wrx for. Lucky, mazda did a buy back program. The car needs
to sell for $25k or it needs 290hp.

ur way off base with that comment maxximus, i love the rx-8 but it doesnt have enough hp for its price. You can get an upscale rx-8 for the price of a base gto. gto= 400 hp with about the same fuel economy as the rx-8. Rx-8's are phenomenol automobiles but i beleive the next generation should offer 2 rotary choices. The cheaper of wich being the current 1.3 liter and the more expensive being something that is about 270-280 hp to put it on par with every other sports car out thtere

The GTO may have more HP per $, but then you'd have to drive a Pontiac! Why would anyone wnat to do that?
