Second, that auction already has 3 bids, which means if there was a Buy-It-Now option, it's now gone.  And since it does have 3 bids, where did the auction start?
Third, the Lotek piece alone costs $45 before shipping and is a really cheap piece of vacuum formed plastic that doesn't fit well and makes noise as it rubs against the original dash piece (according to those that have tried it.)  Can you imagine what it costs to buy the dash center piece from Mazda?  Have you EVER bought any replacement or accessory pieces directly FROM Mazda?  Add to that his time and materials (fiberglass, resin, paint, tools, etc?) and it is completely understandable why it might cost more than a factory, mass produced piece.

Lol.... two of those bids r mine... im dieing for this piece! i have absolutely no problem for quality like this. never thru  a mazda dealership tho. those parts r also mass produced and sold at like 300% margin increase. no wonder they're called stealerships....

and i wasnt the first bidder so i dunno if there was a buy now option

I was actually speaking to the disenchants of the group.  I know where you stand, but have to agree it is a lot of money.
Then again, sometimes you just have to go for it if that's what you want.
Did you notice if there was a Buy-It-Now originally, or where he started the auction at?
I seem to remember a while back seeing the thread where this all started.  One of the forums had a "gauge pod" thread and that's where I recall reading about it.

Or, here's someone else doing it too....

Remember, he said 51 hours PLUS $120 in materials.

Here again, not quite was I was looking for.  Hey, there's a lot of threads about gauge pods, but here's one mattleegee started about his design...

There are hundreds of threads related to gauge pods.

No problem.
I agree with your tastes. He's done a good job w/his.  I was only including these as a reference for you and for anyone else that's interested.
