Hey Everyone. Recently picked up this car as a winterbeater so I could park my car. I miss the turbo though, can anyone point me in the right direction to turboing this car? 2.2 FI is the same as the probe I thought, so would probe turbos work? Im thinking I need:

Stock turbo
Exhaust manifold
bigger injectors
open filter no box
lose the cat

Can you guys help me out? I dont even know where to look for these parts cheap. Thanks!

Don't forget engine computer and possible wire harness as well. I rather doubt the non-turbo computer will have any idea what to do with a positive manifold pressure and will probably just freak out and shut down. Sounds like an awful big project for a car that you will only drive in the winter to save wear on your new 04. Turbo on the older 626/MX6 was horribly prone to turbo oversteer when it kicked in and would be even worse in the winter on ice and snow.

oops sorry i forgot to post that i was planning on getting the FT2 ECU and harness

Drivability is fine, i just dont boost on the streets. Not worried about the car much anyways, i just want the turbo for Rally;)

Im wondering if the FT motor can handle turbo tho? I dont want to bother with pistons rods rings etc.

I do not think that there is much of any difference in the basic engine between the turbo and non. I can not check now but on Monday when back to the daily grind I can certainly check and see if the block, rods, pistons, head, etc. are the same or different between both engines. It is the same engine setup as used in the Probe too. Mazda built for Ford to use in their car.

Cool... thanks alot I would appreciate that. Where do you work?

Im just hoping the F2T and F2NA have the same internals. Right now its looking like:

F2T ECU/Harness
Turbo/Manifold
Lines, gaskets, etc.
F2T injectors
F2T clutch

If thats ALL i have to do... I will do it. Have you seen any for sale?

Well I got some of the internals checked and many do show different. The cam and crank are same but block, cyl head, pistons, and valves all show different part number between turbo and non. What that difference is I do not know. One other thing I thought of on Sunday was coolant and oil supply and returns for the turbo. The coolant may not be a problem with turbo pipes and oil supply can be run off a splitter from the oil sender but the oil return may be a problem. I can't seem to remember if the return emptied into a pipe as part of the oil pan or block. I am thinking block but again, has been a while. Have you considered the cost difference between finding a complete used turbo engine as opposed to individual parts?
