I'm worried about scratching the top of the rear bumper when loading and/or unloading items out of the hatch area. Has anyone installed these rear bumper steps I found at www.trussvillemazda.com. Jim http://www.buymazdaparts.com/images/parts/980.jpg

Sure! One of the most common and cheapest mods for the hb. That's according to my dealer's parts manager.

I requested them from my dealer while negotiating, and they told me that they go ahead and install them on every hatchback as it was so frequently requested. They definitely help a good deal, but there are still times I wish I just had a 3M type clear cover over the back bumper instead of the black plastic. Here's mine.
