Just to close this out - it's clearly a Europe/USA thing rather than a Mazda thing.

I've just come back form a quick shopping trip with 4 litres of milk and 4 litres of OJ on the passenger seat of my new Mazda 2 - no seatbelt warning.

I believe the current model 2 is not sold in the US.

Just bringing this one back from the depths !

I was demented by the warning buzzer on the way back from work with a Coke bottle in the passenger seat, reading this thread after a search it would seem that the US has a light that indicates if the Airbag is going to deploy or not & ours is simply an annoying buzzer if it detects anything heavier than a fag packet on the seat.

So is there anyway to get rid of the annoying buzzing as I & my passengers can remember to put a seat belt on.

Co.

Boy....this is an old thread.

I''ve never understood the term fag for cigarettes.  (Means something way different over here)

You could try buckling the belt quickly then unbelting it.  I know the car I drive now (Ford Taurus) gives a warning beeper if you start moving without your belt.  If you buckle, then unbuckle the belt the beeper stops.
