I purchased a 2007 MX5 hardtop convertible and after 5 fill ups I am only getting 17 mpg. Is anyone else having this problem?

Sorry about 17mpg.  I have just put my second tank of PREMIUM in my PRTH and got 29.44 mpg (6 speed manual).  At only 17mpg there is something wrong.  I would suggest a scheduled visit to the dealership and have them figure it out.

Good luck.

I had a 5 point check done by the dealer and they could find nothing wrong. When I called Mazda and spoke with a spokes person they gave me a complaint number and said that the gas milage stats where only a guide (25-30mpg) and not to go by them. The person I talked to named Mike told me I would just have to live with the 17mpg!

Sorry to hear that, I'm picking up my 07' GT this friday. I hope that I don't get the same thing! I believe that there is something wrong with your vehicle, dragging brakes, fuel/air ratio, timing, etc. I would take it to an independent shop that you trust and have them do a diagnostic test on your ecu while running it on the dyno.

I've got 750 miles on my 2007 GT 6-speed and I'm barely getting 20mpg. Hopefully, once the mechanicals loosen up a bit, it will do better. But my '97 Miata easily got 30+mph, and I was figuring on 26-28 with a heavier, more powerful car. But if I were getting 17, I'd be talking to my dealer.

Inless your revving it into the ground, you shouldn't be getting that bad of mileage. Have you considered your that if you rev the engine just before your gonna start engaging the clutch, that the computer probably calculates that the car is still using gas but not going anywhere. Get what I mean? And it could build up each time you stop. If you do rev before you start, try engaging the clutch before you start and then apply the gas once your RPM start to fall. Hardest part about it is you might stall your car easily, but once you get it down, you will have seemless starts and it might save you a few mpg!

It is a automatic transmission! So far Mazda has said to live with it. I have to go back to the dealer 1 more time before I can start Lemon Law!

In that case, yep, there pretty much nothing you can do I guess.

BTW, how's the flappy padle gearbox? lol

After 9 tanks of gas I am averaging 18.7 mpg! Not what I expected from a Miata!

The car went back in the shop on 6-7-07.They found no codes stored in the computer. It is going back in on 6-11-07 for a few days for a test drive under various driving styles. Still getting 17mpg!
