I changed air filter, spark plugs and wire and EGR valve was changed but when stopping at a light or traffic car would almost always start idling rough RPM's jumping around from about 800 to 100. The few times it did not run rough car ran like a new car - purred and ready to go. Sometimes car would die but not often. Grabing for straws I took loose some vaccum lines and spayed GUNK loosing oil in line. Car has run like a top ever since - knock on wood. Can anyone help with what seems like may have helped my rough idling problem? Thanks, Roy

Anyones guess there rooster2. Perhaps the loosening oil that you introduced into the intake washed some carbon off of the valves which was before not allowing them to close fully???

Thanks for the reply. Your previous answer to adjusting throttle position sensor for this car was right on. Needed only a very slight adjustment to get it back right. Back to Gunk lubricating oil - I did not know vaccum lines went to valves. May try a little more. Is there anything else I can use before I spray more in? Thanks again, Roy

Any vacuum line that has vacuum at it when removed goes back to the intake manifold. Once inside the intake manifold the next place it will end up is the intake valves before it enters the combustion chamber. If carbon was keeping the valves open and this was the cure then a product called sea foam works very good. See link below to what it looks like. This product is a liquid and not a spray so needs to be introduced into the intake system slowly so as not to hydrolock the engine.

Was reading a forum about using Sea Foam. Seems to be some who think it is great and some say just pour in kerosene or diesel (they are the ones who think Sea Foam will do harm). Is there a chance of damaging catalytic convertor (by sucking 1/3 of bottle into vaccum line of brake booster). Also, if 2/3 of bottle is poured into crankcase is there a chance of any internal damage - bearings, sensors, etc.?

Were is the throttle position sensor on a 96 mazda 626? My cay is doing the same thing. Can anyone provide pic of it that would be a great help. Thanks for any info on this guy and gal.
