I've seen plenty of Cherokee's running after 150-200,000 miles (depending on how they were treated)

Not too sure how rugged the Panamericana gets (I assume there are places in Central/South America that barely resemble a road, right?

At a minimum I would want some Mud Terrain tires (aggressive) and a winch (electric powered spool with cable and a hook that mounts on your bumper to pull you out of trouble should you get stuck.)

Here's one that is "modified" like what I'm talking about, has only 52,000 miles (not too sure if I believe the mileage.) and is $3800 USD.

Aja! And how can I know "how they were treated"? I mean... what should I check, in what should I check my atention to know thats its okey?
Ou, this one looks good..but to old..I dont know..I just dont want to have to fix the motor in the midle of Guatemala's Rainforest!
And..whats the mileage of the cherokee?
and what about a Land Cruiser or Patrol?
Thanks
Bz.

Land Cruiser would work fine as well....We don't have Nissan Patrol's here in the US (but they are cool....I'd like a 1968 Patrol myself.

Tough to say how it is treated...Although if you're planning on buying in Alaska, I would assume they've all had a pretty rough life.

I see!! Thanks..but I was thinking that it would be better or a Toyota Land Cruiser (more riability, here in latam are tons of toyotas, but fast no jeep) or a Combi (VW Vanagon)!
What do you think about the typical hippie one?
Thanks
Bz.

Cherokee's are fine quality-wise...Avoid the 2.8L V6 engine.  The 4.0L is a great motor.

I think you'd get stuck in a VW Vanagon.  They would be fine if the road you are travelling is actually a road.  but if it gets muddy, you'd be stuck in an instant
