You can toggle between the nav screen and radio statioin display screens by pushing the audio button. This button is at the bottom of the row of buttons on right side below the volume knob.

I was hoping there was a way to leave it on the audio screen when not using the nav system

Nav screen will always come up first by default when first starting the CX-7 but a one time push of the audio button should change over to the audio screen untill you change it back.
