Did anyone opt to get the extended warranty on the CX-9?.  If so, how much did you pay? and any details... (length Year/Miles) what does it cover etc.
Thanks

Since it's the first year of the vehicle and I plan to keep it more then 5, I went for it.  Was $1695 but that included a $500 off for being a Costco club member.  Now I also got GAP protection for $875 and it looks like the $500 off was for both that and extended.    Also I was told that if I don't use it I will get refunded but it will be pro-rated refund.

ok I turned down all extras,  but on the extended warranty after saying no so many times the started at 1899 for 5 years 60k and the final no i gave them was the same thing for $899 they came down a grand but it is a rip off because like you paid 1699 but realy alls you really bought was 24 months 24 k   because you are already covered for 3yrs 36k anfd the power train is already covered 5yrs, 60k  so you paid 900 a year basicall for year 4 and 5 and that is only for things outside of the motor and trans, what could cost that much to fix (nothing),  you got ripped.  The gap is a waste man , do you plan on wrecking it and having negative equity,  and it has to be your fault if someone else causes the accident they have to cover your complete loan amount so again thats 900 you spent betting you will cause anaccident that totals the car.  anyways that is just my advice sorry to sound stern but i used to be a car salesman, and then i worked for progressive insurance. and i just bought a cx-9 and love it

Since I average about 20Kmi per year, I purchased the 5yr 100Kmi extended plan. I got it for $1435. That's the price on the Ford/Mazda web site. I printed the page, took it to the dealer when I purchased our CX-9, and asked them to match the price. That was more than $1000 less than their initial price. There is a LOT of profit in extended service contracts!

You can also just start at http://www.authorizedfordwarranties.com/ and go through the Mazda section.

The dealer offered us 100k 7yr extended warranty for $1,895 with $100 deductible.

An alternative worth considering...to ask your auto insurance company about mechanical breakdown insurance (it offers similar protection). The price is $25/6mo. for 100k/7yr and $250 deductible (the insurance premium might increase after several years, possibly to $50 or $70/6mo?). Sign up before 1 year or 15k miles.

Three differences:
1) it's much less expensive than the dealer's extended warranty,
2) the insurance company "could" cancel the policy (mine says they have never done this), and
3) you'll need to stay with your auto insurance company...you get a great deal on coverage and they get a long-term customer.

Another option is to check out aftermarket warranty (offered by 3rd-parties, not dealers). This is not offered in California (crazy laws) but is offered in most states...and likely to be much less expensive than dealer's extended warranty. For that matter, the dealer has a lot of margin built-in and they are able to negotiate on their price or terms (length, deductible, etc.).
