hey i bought a used 2001 mazda 626 automatic and every time i check my transmission fluid its a dark color. Now i thought that it was supposed to come out red like the natural liquid you put in. Can anybody tell me if this is normal. Also i wanted to know if there were any inexpensive beginner upgrades to make my car run better ex. air intake, exhaust . and what kind?

dark brown to black transmission oil on your automatic is not a good thing. Does it also smell very pungent and burnt? Should be nice pink in color and smell somewhat sweet. Your sounds to be pretty burnt from lack of changing. Should also think about installing an external oil cooler as it will greatly extend the life of your transmission.
