Can someone post a picture of where the EGR Valve is on a 93 626 (4 cyl)?

I have been getting the engine light and the did a diagnostic on it and got code 16 which is EGR Valve Postion. So I wanted to see if I can get to it to take it off and clean it, but I cant find it. Anyone familiar with this, is it worth it to try this myself or is it too hard to get too? I let it go for awhile but now engine sometimes stalls out at a light.

The EGR valve is locate under the intake manifold, behind the throttle body. Just loosen the clamps on the air intake hose & remove the hose & resonance chamber. You'll need a 12mm wrench to remove two bolts mounting the EGR valve. Caution, there is a tin gasket between the valve & intake. Have to disconnect vacuum hose & the EGR function sensor wire.

Did as you suggested, but still cant see what I am doing. When I put a socket on what I believe are the two bolts, they are 10mm not 12mm. Does this sound right or am I about to unscrew the wrong thing?!

I got it out, what a royal pain. I dont work on cars much, but that thing was very difficult to get to. There was a red hose in addition to the sensor line, vacuum hose, and tin gasket.

Any suggestions on cleaning it? Just use carb cleaner? Do most people clean this thang or do they just by a new one? Would hate to do this twice.

By golly you did get it out. Was just going to post in reply to your other two pictures. The valve is cleanable but of course the most assured way to fix is to put a new one on. I have seen position sensor problems that have been repairable by cleaning and some also due to a faulty sensor. If the thing looks really dirty and caked up with carbon inside then I would try to clean. Get some good strong carb cleaner or top engine cleaner and spray or pour in to both holes untill full. Let it sit overnight and then try to knock out what you can. Pay special attention to the area where the valve and seat contact. This is the area where the problem is created. You will be able to see this valve/seat area thru the top hole closest to the gold colored diaphram. Open the valve/seat manually by pushing on diaphram to allow better cleaning and inspection.

Thanks for all your help.

It was easier to get in than get out, just very little to no clearance. Only been one day, but it hasnt died on me the way it was doing.

Postmortem on this was that the EGR valve was not the issue and the problem returned within a week. I finally relented and took it in. Was told that it was a short in the distributor and coolant temperature sensor.
