Defective Outer Door Seals - 1/25/2007 2:56:09 PM

I had a chance to drive my CX7 in the rain only to discover the inner door area was covered in filthy water when I opened the door upon my return to my house.

The lower seal just protrudes down below the doors without touching them allowing dirt, dust, water into the door area.  Making a real pain to clean this area by hand with the doors open each time I wash the car.

A kind member on another site provided me with a link to a Mazda Service Bulletin which makes it obvious they are  aware of this defect as all cars made after Sep 2006 have an entirely new type of seal there and they say they will retrofit this part if an owner complains.   Sorry, but they should notify all owners of this problem who own cars with VIN numbers which are affected.

Here is the link

http://www.mstore2000.com/PDF_Files/09-044-06-1720.pdf

Service Bulletin No. 09-044/06

Affecting cars with VIN numbers below JM3ER****7*138083

Which mine is.

I called and received the usual

"What problem?"
"What Service Bulletin?"
etc...

From the service manager.  Then they told me I have to bring my car in for an inspection by a tech to determine if I have a problem and if Mazda thinks is a warranty item.  They did not seem to care that there was a bulletin out by Mazda instructing them to do the fix....

So I have to take time off work, drive 45 miles each way to them so they can look at it.

Then, if Mazda aproves the fix they will order the parts needed.  Then when the parts arrive I will again have to take time off work and drive 45 miles each way and sit around while they do the fix....

I will keep you posted as I will be taking it up tomorrow Friday Jan 26, 2007 for the inspection...

Took it to the dealer this morning.

He confirmed, yes my car needs the new seals and has ordered them

He also reflashed my chip to provide better low end power

He also ordered the new style gas cap to prevent the error light problem...

So far so good

I noticed that problem after the first snow day. I thought that it was just the way they designed the door. It's good that you found the problem and I will add it to my list when I bring it back for service.

Interesting as I clicked on even your link and it worked fine.  You must have Adobe software installed on your PC as that is the format the documents are stored in.

Do you have Adobe software on your PC?

I have now had both seals replaced but I have yet to drive it again in the rain to see if they work better though these obviously at least touch the door bottoms
