Hi I am a newbie to the forum and have a 06 2.0 Mazda 5 Sport with excessive tyre wear.  Mazda offering to cover 50% for fronts an 75% for rears.  They are quoting £135 a tyre for Pirelli which I can get from the same tyre shop they said they will use for £124 ?   Just wondering what tyres and prices have been offered to others as I really dont expect to be paying over high street price, and feel this should be cost.  Mazda customer services say they trust the dealer is quoting the cost price they are recieving !

What also worries me is that the car has done 11k miles and the fact that the rear insides are down to the limit but this wasnt picked up at the service 1k miles ago :-(

Seems I am seeing the same problem, great car but poor dealer and customer service.

Hi,
I was given 30% towards two fronts, however, I elected to go for a cheaper tyre, just in case....  The tyres I had were Hankook Ventus XL, I was quoted £90 each by my trusted local tyre dealer, which, obviously would have been £180 for the pair,  my Mazda dealer charged me £112,  I believe it is calculated on a formula, taking into account the remaining tyre tread, mileage you have achieved then multiplied by a rip off factor.

Regards,

Dave

Well i was quoted £570 for the set of 4 Dunlops (inc free fitting -Oooo) so is that Cost price......i think not, i said before comments about "ohh we won't be making anything on that & ohh that's less than we buy them in for" Ie the remainder we have to pay covers the full cost price of the set (I think this anyway) Its all going in a letter so we will see what happens...

They also said it had to be Dunlops or there would be contribution ???

Co.

Greetings all.  It is a long time since I passed this way.....  I am amazed that the thread has continued.  I seem to have had my car fixed.  At long last the third set of tyres are wearing evenly across the tyre, all is well.

I notice that MMUK sent out a recall letter?  Did everyone get one?

I wonder if the fix I had done was what the recall was going to do anyway?????

Alas I was not party to the letter, I see that other people have had communication from MMUK from reading previous posts.
I think they need to post a copy to let us all see what MMUK are up to.

However, as I have already said they appear to have cured my car......

If they can do one, surely they can do them all?

Maybe not......

Each of my three sets of tyres I have paid a contribution of around £100 MMUK,  and my dealer picked up the rest of the bill.  I had Avons fitted on one occasion, Dunlops on the other occasions....
Make of tyre shouldn't make any difference......

My dealer confided to me that they would make up the cost of their contribution to the new tyres via servicing, so it wasn't any problem to them!!!!

Just out of interest, what brand of tyres do you have on at the moment - the ones that seem to be wearing evenly?

Dave.

My car is sporting the allegedly updated Dunlop SP's
Although Dunlop Goodyear say that there has been no updates or changes to the make up of the tyres!!

Fascinating. So, how many miles have this set done so far, and how does that compare to sets 1 and 2?

My original front tyres, Dunlops obviously, were totally shot by 12,500, and were showing the symptoms at 9000-ish. The replacement Bridgestones go over 10,000 this week and look fine, yet no adjustments have been made to my car. I'm still bafffled.

My rear tyres are still the original Dunlops, they're showing the symptoms now, at 22,300 miles, but I reckon at this rate of wear I'm legal and hopefully safe for about another 3000 miles or so.

Dave.
