Hi All,

took the car in for new front tyres yesterday, and at my request had Hankook Ventus fitted.  Mazda UK didn't surprise me and gave a paltry £54 towards the cost (32%) of tyres which were so worn on the inner edge that the substrate was evident at only 11000 miles.  Of course monitoring the tyres is now as routine as putting out the refuse or cleaning out the rabbits, but frankly I prefer the latter two as they are less depressing.

thanks Dave, sav nav no longer a problem, thats one off the list several to go.

P.S- if you find that time machine give me a shout, i wish i never looked at a Mazda (i know it's sad to say but i should of stayed with a german motor, my last 4 cars were Audi A4 Avants, 3 of them i took to at least 150000 and not a single problem, and tyres lasted a lot longer)

speak soon

If anyone has bought (or is thinking of buying) a lower spec car in the UK,  I can report that our '07 1.8 TS2 has no tyre wear issues at 5,000 miles - nor does it look like it's heading for a problem

I've been recording the tread depth faithfully at 1,000 mile intervals and there is no significant or unveven wear.

Having said that, there is a report of poor wear on at least one 1.8 so I have to add that YMMV.

My advice would be not to buy a Mazda, full stop.  You can get a good dealer, but you are still subject to the whims of Mazda UK and they now have a proven track record of being uncooperative ("slippery" probably best describes them).  They swear on a stack of bibles that they'll return your call, but it will always be you that has to ring back.  Bitter and twisted?  I should say so, and I used to be a choir boy!

I have a Furano (56 plate) which was serviced on Saturday (not by Mazda).  I was advised of uneven wear on front tyres (inside). Car hasn't done 6000 miles yet!  Found this forum on Sunday.

Couldn't believe that this issue had been going on for such a long time.  Emailed watchdog about it and mentioned as part of my email the potential risk to my 2 children.  One is 8 weeks old and the other is 23 months old.  Also mentioned that I would be contacting my local Mazda dealer.

Called Mazda dealer and the car is booked in for Thursday and Friday.  They advised that they are fully aware of the situation re the cars and that they will replace tyres and realign wheels.  Cost of new tyre to be split between myselft and Mazda based on wear.  They also assured my that this would fix the problem and that I wouldn't be going back to them time and time again.  I mentioned that I had read of customers being on their 4th set of tyres.  I didn't tell them that I had contacted watchdog.

I'll let you know what the Mazda dealer does.  I'll make sure that whatever fix they provide is documented.

hi all i aslo have the problem with the rear tyre wear. my car has done 6000 miles and the nearside rear inner tread is down to 3.5mm . have hade the wheel alingment done and this made it worse as this wose done at 2000 miles.
i read that a lot of you have had problems with front tyre wear and yous were asking if you had had the tyres rotated. this has nothing to do with it  it all comes down to the rear wheel alingment if the rear is out it causes the car to crab not bad enough that you can feel it but thats what the problem is.

this isnt the only time mazda has had this problem when they first launched the 1992 mazda 626 this had the same problem but rear wheel alingment solved this problem.

as a former mechanic for mazda i cant help but notice that its only the sports that are having the problem which makes me think that the offset on the wheels mite be wrong.

as there was someone that posted saying that they changed to 18" wheels and have had no problem and also that the other models with 16" wheels are ok to.

i am waiting on mazda to get back to me with regards replacing the tyres and a resolve for this problem.
have also told them wife going on 800 mile round trip and if there is no fix by then that they will have to give me a replacment vehicle as she will not be taking this with 2 adults and 4 kids in car which they have agreed to.

will just have to see if they are true to there word

will keep yous up to date

It's the same setup as the 3.  What I did was climb under there w/2 - 17mm wrenches (raise and support the car first, of course.) On the back of the lower inner control arm is a scale.  Clean it off and using a marker, mark where the factory setting is.  Then loosen the locking nut using one wrench, and turn the other until you've lengthened the lower control arm (toward the affected tire) approximately 1.5 lines from where it was.  Then re-tighten to locking nut.
It's a crude adjustment, I admit, and depending on the wear you are experiencing you may want to go more or less on that adjustment or just on one side, but it will help A LOT!!  You'll be able to see and feel the difference.
I'm not a big fan of a lot of rear neg camber in a FWD car in the first place.  It only adds to the vehicles tendency to understeer, which it will still do just less than before.
Try it!  You'll like it!!
