the early(95-96) coils are different from the later style, but it looks like they superseed. anyone know for sure if they are interchangeable?

Checked part numbers and looks like should be ok if vehicle built after 10-01-1994. Part number does not superseed from KJ01-18-100A on production before 10-01-94 but after that date the coils superceed to the same part number of KJ01-18-100C. Not sure what the difference in older coils would be but can't imagine they would not work if reach to plug is same and will bolt up and plug in.

i replaced all coils a year ago. at that time, the price for the 95-96 coils was about 50 bucks less than the later coils, but no one knew what the difference was. a set of coils came up on ebay, and i bought them for a really low price. the early coils have 4 spade leads inside the connector, the later coil has only 3. it appears the early coil has been superseeded to the late coil. i even checked my epc, and there is only 1 part number now for the coils.

Dug a little deeper into the coils this morning. The US epc shows the KJ0118100A to be available for retail of $96.10. KJ0118100b superceeds to 100C and also available for $174.80. Will the old style coil plug into the coil connector on your 99s? Diagrams show both to be a 4 pin connector is why am asking. Compared wiring diagrams for 99 and 95. Power supply, ground and ignition signal from PCM are exactly identical between the two years down to PCM pin # and even ground point!! The extra 4th pin on the older coil was not used in 96 and later. Is called an ignition confirmation signal in the service highlights but no other description as to purpose. This wire for all six coils goes to pin 2D of PCM on 95 but in later model pin is empty at pcm and coil connector. Do not see any reason that the old coil could not be used in later model. Would not use later coil in early style though. If you want to see, I will post the diagrams so you can compare yourself.

excellent!!! the later coils have the exact same connector. nice to know they will work. thanks for the research.

waal, pilgrims, it works. i went out and swapped one of the early coils, car started right up, pulled to redline, no cel, no miss, no difference. what was the pro date of the first 95 my cars in the us? i bought these off ebay, and it said they were from a 95 car. in germanese, a sept(9/xx) prod car is the next year. iow, 10/94 pro date is a 95 car. dunno if that is the same with japanese.
