Just got a Pioneer DEH-P9800BT for my 2006 Mazda 3 5 door and I am aware that by installing it in place of the factory stereo I will lose the clock and temperature display. Has anyone heard of a way to keep this display if even just the temperature or time with the aftermarket unit? Also I was thinking of doing a double din sized screen in the place of the Pioneer. Has anyone heard of a dash kit for this car that will fit? I am also doing Infinity Kappa components for the front and rears with a 6 channel infinity amp. If anyone has any other ideas for anything that I am doing please share!! THANKS!!

Currently there are no double DIN dash kits available for the 3, so if you want to do a screen you'll have to get a single DIN and do some customizing with fiberglass, and bondo. If you have any skills with those then you can come up with a pretty good looking panel.

Starting in 2006 mazda made the wiring harness for the LCD screen seperate from the the HU wiring harness (as opposed to earlier models where it was integrated). You can unplug the HU and keep the LCD with the new dash kit, however you'll have to fabricate some sort of bracket to hold it there. That shouldn't be too difficult, however that depends entirely on your comfort with making things. ;) The clock will still work, however you'll have to plug in the original stereo in order to reset it. The ambient temp. display will continue to work, and the ACC if your car has it.

Ya that helps a ton! It is good to know that I can keep that display. Next up is tinting a painted calibers...will post pics soon!
