Hi. I have a 2004 Mazda MPV GT, with power sliding doors. The key has a chip and the remote can operate the power locks and the power sliding doors. Well, my wife thinks she lost hers (key and remote). When I called Mazda dealers in Toronto, I was told a new remote costs $142.13+tax and a new key is $36.51+tax. There is also a cost to re-program the new and my current key and remote together, for a cost of between $45 to $98 depending on the dealer. It's supposed to take no more than 1 hr. So it's going to cost at least $255 to get a new set of key and remote. That's a lot of money. Is there any other cheaper options, or am I at the mercy of Mazda?

Thanks. I was able to buy cheaper used remotes from ebay. Also ordered transponder keys that will be cut using a key code. But because I only have one good key, I have to take the new keys to a Mazda dealer for programming, it's supposed to be only a few minutes work. If I have 2 good keys then I can program new keys myself (and save the trip and cost at the dealer). So I did order more than 1 new key this time. If anyone needs to order more transporder keys, be sure to order enough so you have at least 3. That way you can program new keys yourself as long as you have 2 good keys.
