Hey everyone, I just have a few quick questions for you about the RX-8. I currently have a 2004 Mazda 3s 5-door and I just read in the paper that the dealership I bought my Mazda from is trying to sell all of their 2005 RX-8's so that they can bring in their 2006's. They have 40 of them I believe and the price is somewhere around $17,500, I only took a quick glance at the paper at work but it looked appealing.

My questions:

1) How is the RX-8 for everyone
2) What kind of gas mileage do you get
3) What gas is used (regular, premium?)

Thanks guys, I haven't gone to the dealer yet but I'm just wondering if anyone has any opinions or answers to the three questions. My 3 is in very good condition and I'm taking very good care of it.

Thanks,
Mazda3sRule

What do you want in a car? The 3 is quick but does not even compare to the 8 in speed and acceleration. The 8 can accelerate to 100+ in 3rd while you are pushing 50. Have had an 8 to 140mph on drive with new vehicle but could not get a 3 to the same if i worked it on freeway. Fuel is premium and if you have to ask about the mileage per gallon then get a 3. You want a comparison. Go to dealer and ask to drive an 8 without salesman escort. If I had the $ would walk out with an 8 no problem. Go drive one and you will see what I am talking about. I do not own either of the vehicles but have driven both being a master tech at dealer. Believe me, go drive an 8 with no holds barred and you will be a believer of ROTARY power. The twin turbo 3rd gen RX7 had a great kick when turbos were in full boost but RX8 has a beautiful power curve throught full range of acceleration.

I have had 6 speed sport and wife currently has an 05 automatic. These cars require some involvement in the way of regular oil level checks. They're designed to use more oil than a piston engine. If you have twisties around your home, an RX-8 will be the most fun you will have in a car. I call mine a poor man's Ferrari. If you buy, get the manual shift.

i had a 2004 rx-8 and traded in for a '05. the '04 was used with about 11k miles. the '05 is at 3k miles. i have notice that the '05 appears to have less power in acceleration than the '04. anybody have a comment or am i just imagining things? also i had planned to put on after market exhaust, maybe borla, will that void factory warranty? thanks

I have heard from some 04 owners that they felt car did not accelerate as quickly after having the PCM calibration changed. The 05 would already have these calibration changes from factory so maybe that is what you are feeling. After market exhaust will not affect warranty as long as the catalytic converters and oxygen sensors are not removed.

17500 for RX-8? that's fcuking cheap.

the mileage sucks though and cost a lot to fill it up. i heard it has a very big tank!!
