Hi folks,

My father-in-law just picked up a Mazda5 GT. Nice ride. I have experience with at Mazda3 GT. I had to get winter tires for the 3 because I found winter handling was terrible with the low profile tires. Tires on the 5 look to be similar, although I haven't directly compared them. Has anyone had problems with the 17" stock tires on the 5 in the winter time? Has anyone purchased winter tires, or going to after a winter with the stock tires on?

Thanks for the response.

Jury's still out for me. Waiting to see how the stock tires will perform on snow.

Jim.

The stock GT 17" tires are terrible in the snow and rain. I just put on 4 16" Nankook winter tires.

That's all I needed to hear. I'm getting a set of Michelin X-Ice.

Jim.

I run 205/50R17 Dunlop Wintersport M3's on my wife's 6 and they are incredible in the dry/wet/snow. I highly recommend them.

I have Dealer supplied winter tire: Hankook I pike + 16 inch rims. Works fine.
Still spins when moving out of an icy 4-way stops (but so is my other car
with an X-ice on it). But regular driving, cornering is same as the X-ice I had
in my old car.

The tires had paid for itself yesterday when a huge vehicle decided to run the
red light (no chance for him to stop road too icy). The tire and abs did its job at
slowing the Mazda 5 to allow just enough distance to let the wayward vehicle pass by.
