LPS has no idea what a DPFE is. Can I get one online or do I have to get one at a Ford or Mazda dealer?

Well if you will tell me what LPS is then I am sure I can find you not only an online source to get a DPFE sensor but a part number that will make the job even easier. Last 8 digits of your VIN would help as well as there are a couple of different sensors depending upon year built and engine.

Our LPS stores are NAPA and Advanced Auto Parts (Advanced says "what's a DPFE?").

Last 8 of the VIN are:

1KM48605

Doh!!! I get it. LPS = Local Parts Store

.

Part number for the sensor from Mazda is a 1F72-20-302. You can but online at www.onlinemazdaparts.com for $30.22. Just enter that part number into the #2 box. Search by Factory Part Number.

Too bad it did not fail earlier this year as there is a Special Service Program or SSP 59 that extends the free replacement warranty on the part to 5 years from original warranty start date or 74,000 miles, whichever comes first. That warranty expired on your Trib 5/22/06 which was only 4 months ago.

and it was still open with no warranty record of warranty replacement in history.

Way back on 8/12/05 I posted on this thread and said that I'd report back. Better late than never. I found a coupon for a free scope at a local garage. Took my 2002 Tribute in, and the code came back P0204. Took it into the dealership with this info, hoping the repair would be covered under that extended warranty mentioned earlier. Bottom line, got the Tribute fixed for free. Can't complain about that.

A couple of things. One is that Checkers Auto will also provide the diagnostic tool free (to check at the store).
The other is that I have a P401 code and thought I could rule the sensor out by disconnecting the cable. I cleared the codes and the sensor light came back on.
Is there another device that will generate this code. Or, is the computer looking for a signal from the sensor that isn't there?
