I found the problem with the G rotor signal, a bad connector at the distributor. BTW, do you know where the PCV valve is? The book says on the cam cover, but not there on this 89 model. There is a funky looking device on the rear block top just aft of the passenger side cam cover that has a hose that runs into the bottom of the intake plenum.

Tim you found it, how have fun getting it out. Pliers on the clamps, becareful with the rubber hoses can be brittle on an old timer MPV.
There a hose on either side of the valve, elbow & staight one.
