My 2001 Tribute died on me 2 days ago. Had to call AAA and have it towed to a repair shop. The shop said they checked the battery (original) and could get no reading, say it read as a short or open connection. Replaced the battery and its running again. My question is, why does my odometer readout stay on even after the key is turned off and removed. Will this drain the battery and is there something that can be done to fix the problem. Thanks for any info.

Is not a problem kanila. The odometer and shift inidicator LCD will remain on in the older Tributes. Do not recall if they turn off automatically after the battery saver relay shuts down or not. Will try to look and see. Drain is very very tiny from that LCD and should not cause you any battery problems at all.

Thanks, that is a load off my mind. I could not remember if the readout went out after a certain time. This SUV has been great since my original purchase, no problems except for this battery problem. Thanks again.

If this is the original battery on your 2001 then you had a very good battery. I have had enough battery problems in the past that I replace mine at 4 years regardless if there are any symptoms. It is only a matter of time that they will fail after that. Why get stranded?

I agree, my battery went out in 4 years also. I was a litle surprised by that, but I'm sure they are not the best batts used in production.
