Help! MY 89 MPV diagnostic code (03) indicates that I have a missing "G" signal from the distributor. The engine is a V-6 3.0 liter. What is this signal and what is it's function? Thanks, Tim

It's the attached to the distributor just below the vacuum advance unit, has BOSCH type connector. It provide a reference signal to the electronic control unit for fuel injection. Disconnect the negative battery cable & depress the brake pedal for at least 5 sec., reconnect battery. Test drive, if code 03 returns when start checking, the connector on the distributor. Pop the dist cap, check for dirt & rust dust clean if found & blow dry. Remove the G sensor from the side of the distributor, it's an electro-magnetic pick-up coil. Is it covered with metal filing or rust? The workshop manual doesn't list any test for it, just wiring continuity to ecu from the red with blue stripe wire of the wire harness connector & at idle the 1N pin of the ecu should have approx. 1 volt signal from the sensor.
