Well I know a few peeps out there that have done alot to the stock system.  Some even replaced the bose with higher brands and added Tvs and computers.   Here is one of my fello mazda6club members thats coming to the 2004 NOPI Nationals in Atlanta in Sept.  He has a nice setup.   http://www.mymx6.com/MyMazda6Page.htm  I have a few more but got to hunt them down.

Is is true that Infinity Kappas are the best speakers?

If they are then I'm throwing my Bose out and putting those in.

I have to look at that link yet but, a stereo upgrade would be nice. The bose is great for someone who is content with stock sound. And I am a firm believer that the extra cash for the Bose was well worth it! So I guess I will not be upgrading my speakers speakers for my 6 wagon. Rahter I am changin the radio for a Eclipse AVN2454. This is a welcome upgrade since I travel for work tend to stop alot to ask directions. I figure that with the kit for the 6 dash that Metra makes, installing should be easy and affordable.
FYI The place that takes care of my installations let me know that the best way to install subwoofers in the 6 wagon is in the trunk with boxes that form the wheel well arches and not in the spare tire well.

does the steering wheel control go away if you install something after market? Where are the best places to get this done? How much can you expect to pay? I am 6"4 1/2 & love the Mazda6 w/ BOSE but I can't get it w/ factory installed BOSE b/c I can't fit in the 6 well at all w/ the moonroof. Thus, I need to get the stereo upgraded aftermarket somehow as the basic stereo package is very weak.

You actually don't need to mess around with the stock head unit for the M6S. All you need to do to get more bang out of that unit is to add a few tweeters, Upgrade your door speakers, and put some subwoofers in the trunk of your vehicle. I run two 12" Audiobahns and they kick out 2000w each. To make up for all that base, I added some crappy walmart tweeters which actually worked very well when i tapped into the sound wiring for the bose speakers. I am very picky on my sound quality and this completely hit the spot for a very nice and obnoxious sound system. Nothing says it better than when a guy on a lawn mover turns it off to stare at you cause he can hear it loud and clear.

JL audio makes a device called a clean sweep. What it does is allow you to run the wiring from the stock system to the cleansweep and it completely digitizes the signal and cleans out any and all formatting the stock system gives it, so if you want to run an amped system you don't have to do any pesky meddling wtih the stock facia. The other nice part of it is you get to keep your volume adjust on your steering wheel!

clean sweep sounds like a nice lil' gizmo. did you do that to your sound system? does it make it a noticeable difference? also, would a sub. system be able to run off of that as well?

I run the cleansweep with 2 phoenix gold amps, infiniti kappas all around and 2 12" infiniti perfects in a sealed custom box. The setup is as simple as simple could be, there's practically no need to even read the manual on it, everything is very clearly labeled on the unit itself. The difference between my system and the stock is beyond compare, but there's no way to accuratly tell you that the cleansweep is doing what it says, because all it's doing is cleaning up a signal and sending it where you want it to go. The only part of it that you have to be sure to configure properly at setup is the supplementary sound adjust on the box. You have to be sure that it's set to a level that you want or else 1 click of the steering wheel mounted volumn control could mean the end of all those pretty speakers you just bought!
