i looked for the 'tail" fuse...there isnt one haha, and i have no idea what else to look for, i really hate not being able to drive at night, ive already had a warning he said if i still drive at night its a ticket and a license suspension...not at the top of my things to do list haha

if anyone has any other suggestion, i need them

ok check the bulbs for filaments still in tact. Then if that doesn't work tails often fail from bad grounds or you could make sure that the 20 year old wiring hast gotten chewed through by age. It is common for these cars with their age to have wiring harnesses that experience a few problems.

hey man i have a gxl also i was having problems with my car also with tail lights and there is a fuse for the lights i will get a picture of which fuse it is and highlight it!

if its not the fuse replace the switch i know the headlight switch will turn on the headlights and the tail lights too but if you have a bad switch the headlights will still work but the taillights and the interior dash lights wont???

also check and replace grounds!

Fuse may also be labeled ILLUMI. In the under dash fuse box there are four rows of fuses. The fuse in question should be in the top row and all the way to the right.
Did not see that you made any mention of your dash illumination and front marker lights are working or not?? If they are ok but still no tail lights then would not be the fuse or headlight switch as they are all powered up by the same wire out of the headlight switch and after the fuse. So are these other lights working?

no, my dash and my front markers arn't. but i checked the illumi fuse and its good...im goin to check the fuse connection tomoro with a test light. if thats not it i was wondering if someone can help me out on finding where the ground wire is for my tail lights

The ground for the taillights is inside the rear hatch area just in front of the right taillamp assembly. This ground would in no way effect the inoperative front marker and dash illumination lights. The only thing that would be common to all of these would be that fuse or the headlight switch itself. If you want to be able to check it with your test light. Power into the switch for the taillights is provided by the White wire w/ Green stripe. Power out to the tail lights is at the Red wire w/ Black stripe. Power out to dash light that can be dimmed is at the Red wire w/ Green stripe.

hey man ok this sounds really stupid but i went through and checked everything in my car that could possibly make the tail lights go goofy

here they are

front marker lights ground out on something
rear marker lights/taillights are grounding out on something
totes/storage bin lights are grounding out on something
dash lights wiring harness grounding out
wiring harness from headlight switch to mid piece under dash the one that is running with a white wire w/green stripe is junko
heater wiring harness is grounding out on something
headlight assembly manual flip ups are grounding out some where

all of these things make the taillights go fricken NUTS!!!!!

It is extremely unlikely that each of those circuits are grounded but instead is much more probable that a common circuit to them all is grounded. That common point would be the headlight switch. What rating of fuse do you have in the ILLUM spot? If you have a 30A crammed in there then that is probably why the switch and harness are melting. Too much amperage being allowed on that small gauge wire before a fuse can blow. Need to try and isolate out which circuit is grounding out. To do this disconnect the headlight switch and put a 15A back in the ILLUM fuse spot. Get a little jumper wire or paper clip and connect between the power in from that fuse which would be the White wire w/ Green stripe. First jumper to the Red wire w/ Black stripe and see if fuse holds. This should power up all of the non-dimmable lights. If it does then move jumper over to power up the Red wire w/ Green stripe. This wire will power up all of the lights whose brightness you can control with the panel light control switch. Does the fuse blow when either of these is shorted accross to? If so you just cut the number of circuits that could be grounding in half.

yes check the fusing again and make sure it's the proper fuse.
