System Too Rich (Bank 1), CODE P0172 - 4/5/2006 1:02:54 PM    zoom zoom 99   Posts: 3 Joined: 4/4/2006 Status: offline Hi I’ve got the “check engine” light on and it shows code P0172 – system too rich. When reset it, it comes back after a few miles (I think usually when the car idles for a while, getting warmer...?). Other than the annoying light and higher than normal gas mileage, there are no other symptoms. This is a 1.6L Protege 99. Has anyone experienced this? Where to begin with troubleshooting? What's Bank 1? Someone told me the fuel cap (faulty, defective) may sometimes cause this problem. I don't see anything wrong with the gas cap, it closes tight, so I'm not sure if I should try a new one. Could somebody offer some ideas? Thanks in advance Post #: 1
