Default New to forum help with issue of Mazda Protege 97 requested

Hello All

I drive a 97 Mazda Protege (about on it 130,000 miles). I bought it last year to fix up for my niece and nephew who will soon be driving age. The car has been running fine for several months. 2 days ago, the battery and airbag warning lights started blinking on and off. The speedometer also fail past 0 and now sits at the 6 o'clock position (it tries to move up but is blocked and can't move past zero). Yesterday, the car was dead when I tried to crank it (one day after the other issues started). The battery was dead and needed charged, so I charged it and confirmed it is good. Alternator and starter have been tested and are fine. Car is running now with the same issue with lights and speedometer. The bolt on my negative battery cable was broken, but has been replaced.

Any idea what might be going on. I first thought fuse or relay (megafuse maybe?) or a short somewhere in the electrical? I am thinking to replace both cables and terminals to the battery and go from there.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks
