I am having a very strange issue with my Mazda6 vehicle, which started yesterday and I was looking for explanation on many articles/forums about the same issue and didn't find anything.

The car is a 4 year old Mazda6 diesel 2.2 (150HP) with automatic gearbox, 125,000 kms (approx 78,000 miles) in it. Yesterday, after a short ride and some hours without use, I started up the engine, and it was not running smoothly. The engine started fine and rpm was around 800, but right after it dropped to around 400-500, then again back to 800, and it continued for 5-6 times, then the engine idle rpm was at 800 without dropping back again. Gearbox was in parking mode, but when I switched to drive, the same issue happened and continued. I switched it back to parking and tried to push the gas pedal, but the car limited the rpm around 1500, the engine didnt run properly, dropping back the rpm to 500, even when I was pushing the pedal. I stopped the engine, and start it back again some mins later, then the rpm went up to 1,800 then a bit later dropped to 800, running there for seconds, and dropping between 800 and 500, then the engine was stalled. Fuel level is half, so I am not running out of it. No warning lights, service interval is close but I am not on the limit - 2-3000 kms left until next scheduled service.

Have you ever had this kind of issue? What do you think, what can cause this?

Regularly I am using the car in long distances, but yesterday I used it in the city only with short runnings.
