Default Mazda6 diesel part of diesel invasion

The Mazda6 is gorgeous and on paper, seems a fantastic buy. Fuel efficient and equipped with a good amount of tech, the vehicle is getting a lot of buzz ahead of its January 2013 release. However, about six months later, the Mazda6 diesel will hit car dealerships, as Mazda is joining the list of car makers unleashing an oil burner in the U.S. Are you currently trying to sell or purchase a new or used LINK REMOVED BY MF STAFF? LA Auto Show announcement of Mazda6

Just like the Kia Optima with its good looks, the Mazda6 is one of the best-looking mid-size sedans manufactured by a non-luxury carmaker. It was certainly expected considering the Mazda6 was based off the Takeri concept.

A ton of fuel economy is expected in the Mazda6 too; it might even beat the Prius. The automobile will have a SkyActiv-d engine, which is a diesel engine.

Mazda had the new Mazda6 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and it the Mazda6 diesel, according to AutoBlog, will be available for advanced order soon after New Year's. The Mazda6 diesel will debut as a 2014 model, so it won't be appearing at say, a car dealership of LINK REMOVED BY MF STAFF, until this summer at least. The gasoline model arrives at dealerships in January 2013.

High expectations

Engine choices are two four-cylinders, a 2.2-liter SkyActiv-d, and the diesel, or a 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G, using gasoline. Official figures, like power or economy, aren't accessible yet as the EPA has yet to rate them. Transmission options will be a six-speed automatic or, since it is a Mazda, a six-speed manual. Car and Driver had a go in the European model, which has paddle-shifters for the automatic.

European consumers can pick between two 2.2-liter diesels with horsepower options of 143 hp and 173 hp. The United States model will be closer to 165 hp, according to AutoGuide. The 2.5-liter gets 189 horsepower in the European spec model, according to AutoBlog, but 184 horsepower in the U.S. model.

In the diesel, Car and Driver believed they were given around 40 miles per gallon.

Mazda will put its iELOOP system in the automobile no matter what the fuel is to get kinetic energy recovered in it. The system will capture energy when braking and put it in high-volume capacitors to power electrical components.

More diesels to come

Numerous diesels are slated to debut in the near future besides the Mazda6 diesel, which on paper seems a very intelligent purchase. Naturally, many are German. Audi, according to USA Today, is expanding its diesel lineup by offering the 3.0-liter turbo diesel six-cylinder in the A6 and A8 sedans, the A7 “four-door coupe” and the Q5 crossover, previously only available in the Q7. The A3 may also be had with a 2.0-liter TDI.

By 2014, according to AutoGuide, BMW is going to have six diesel models available. Apart from the 320D sedan, there will also be a diesel 3 series sport wagon, diesel 5 and 7 series sedans, an X3d crossover, joining the X5 diesel.

American corporations are definitely going to jump on as well. Ford has some plans that have not been publicized supposedly while the Cadillac ATS diesel and Chevrolet Diesel from General Motors are already popular, according to Fortune. A 3.0-liter turbo diesel will be available in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel at Chrysler, and the business plans to put the motor in other automobiles as well, according to GreenCarReports.
