2005 Mazda 6 S V6 fuel pump cheap source
2005 Mazda 6S V6 fuel pump $140 from AdvanceAutoParts.com. CARQUEST part number E8465 or SKU 18770611. Strainer FS205 fits perfectly. Retailers and dealer want $400 for the entire white plastic assembly, consisting of a fuel pump, filtering sock, fuel level sending unit. I removed the assembly from the tank, then disassembledto get down to the bare naked fuel pump and sock. Pump is a standard 38 mm diameter with a spacer and o ring. The replacement pump from AAP is advertised at 63 psi at unknown volume. Since the fuel system is a non-return system, the pressure should easily get to 73psi, and the regulator under the hood will help.
To remove the ring from the tank lid: Make a tool. Buy two tubes of epoxy putty (gas tank repair stuff at WalMart RV section). Cut a piece of wood or metal into a U shape that will fit down into the 5.5” access hole. Mix up the putty. Spray the ring with cooking spray. In 2 places, smash the putty into the ring ridges, and mold to the wood. Screw a handle to the wood, and rotate.
I found it easier to clamp two chunks of ¼” steel to acrossbar.
